The Department of Environment and Natural Resources Regional Office in Bicol (DENR-ROV) conducted a five-day Basic Pollution Control Training for some 50 employees of Bicol’s retail giant, Liberty Commercial Center (LCC), on February 27 until March 8, 2015 at the 6th Floor Function Room of LCC Mall, Legazpi City.
The training was conducted in compliance with the requirements of the DENR to ensure that LCC’s operations are within the framework of environmental regulations and other environmental laws of the Philippines.
The participants coming from LCC were briefed on some of the permitting requirements provided under Presidential Decree (PD) No. 1586 or the Environmental Impact Statement System and its Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR), Republic Act (RA) 9275 or the Clean Water Act, RA 8749 or the Clean Air Act of 1999, RA 9003 or the Solid Waste Management Act, RA 6969 or the Toxic Substances and Hazardous and Nuclear Waste Control Act of 1990 and other issuances by the DENR -Environmental Management Bureau (EMB).
Aside from familiarizing themselves of such topics as Air Quality Sampling, Source Emission Testing, Data Collection, Sampling and Sample Analysis and Soil Sampling, the participants also performed workshops on DENR-EMB’s DAO 27-Self-Monitoring Report (SMR) and on Incident Investigation and Reporting.
Experts and engineers from DENR- EMB V as well as from the Bicolandia Environmental Testing and Consultancy Services facilitated the training, which was also held to orient LCC front liners on said environmental laws in relation to the performance of their duties and responsibilities at LCC.
The LCC management reiterated its no-nonsense compliance with all the existing environmental laws in the Philippines as a way of showing its commitment to a cleaner and greener environment while doing a responsible and Mother Earth-friendly business.
