One of the concluding highlights of this year’s Ibalong Festival was the festive Street Presentation on Monday that has tremendously leveled up as the festival celebrated its Silver Anniversary with the participation of various contingents from the Bicol mainland
The exciting crowd-drawing event kicked off at the Penaranda Park fronting City Hall on Rizal St. in Albay district all the way to Quezon Avenue infront of LCC Mall Legazpi in Legazpi Port district where the participants showed might and feat to the beat of the drums and rhythmic music.
Leading the potong marchers were City Mayor and ExeCom chairman Noel Rosal, city councilors and other city officials. The event was also graced by showbiz personality Andrei Paras.
The Tribu Tigbi from Tiwi Central School in Tiwi, Albay was the Grand Champion; followed by Tribu Sornahay from Sorsogon National High School in Sorsogon City, 1st runner-up; Tribu Bulawan from the Oro Site National High School, 2nd runner-up; Tribu Pocot from the Sipocot National High School in Sipocot, Camarines Sur, 3rd runner-up; Tribu Luzonian from the South Luzon Technological College Foundation, 4th runner-up; and Tribu Boaboahan from the Lourdes National High School in Nabua, Camarines Sur, 5th runner-up.
The champion took home P300,000 cash and a trophy; the 1st runner-up with P250,000 and trophy; 2nd runner-up with P200,000 and trophy; 3rd runner-up with P150,000 and trophy; 4th runner-up with P100,000 plus trophy; and 5th runner-up with P75,000 plus trophy.
The Ibalong main characters Baltog, Handyong and Bantong led the portrayal of the epic. Together with the other epic characters, cash prizes to the best in dancing, music and sound, costume and props were also given away.
LCC, which has been supporting the festival all these years was one of the major sponsors for this great event. (EA)
